Background of the study
Translator training is a crucial factor in ensuring high-quality interpretation, particularly in contexts where language and cultural nuance are paramount. In Calabar, Efik language interpretation is an essential service for educational, legal, and community engagements. Recent initiatives to enhance translator training have focused on equipping interpreters with advanced linguistic skills, cultural sensitivity, and technical proficiency (Udo, 2023). Training programs now incorporate practical workshops, simulation exercises, and the use of technology to simulate real-life interpretation scenarios. These efforts are intended to reduce common errors and improve overall interpretation accuracy, thereby facilitating more effective communication in formal settings (Anyanwu, 2024). The study examines how targeted translator training impacts the accuracy and efficiency of Efik language interpretation. By evaluating interpreter performance before and after specialized training sessions, and by gathering feedback from stakeholders, the research aims to determine the effectiveness of current training methodologies and to identify areas requiring further development. This investigation will contribute to enhancing professional standards and ensuring that interpretation services in Calabar meet both local and international benchmarks.
Statement of the problem
Despite improvements in translator training, Efik language interpretation in Calabar continues to face challenges related to accuracy and consistency. Inadequate exposure to cultural nuances and insufficient practice with technical terminology often lead to misinterpretations during live sessions (Udo, 2023). The current training modules may not fully address the dynamic needs of professional interpreters, resulting in variable performance across different contexts (Anyanwu, 2024). This study seeks to identify the specific gaps in translator training programs and assess their impact on interpretation quality. Addressing these shortcomings is vital to enhance communication accuracy and ensure that Efik interpretation effectively supports educational, legal, and community engagements.

Research questions:
Significance of the study
This study is significant as it highlights the critical role of translator training in ensuring accurate Efik language interpretation. The findings will guide educational institutions, training centers, and policymakers in refining training modules to better address practical challenges, ultimately enhancing the quality of interpretation services in Calabar (Udo, 2023; Anyanwu, 2024).
Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to assessing translator training and its impact on Efik language interpretation in Calabar. It does not extend to other languages or informal interpretation settings.
